The Community Engagement Core (CEC) has been active this year. Here are a few of the activities that they have been involved with:
Community Events
The CEC planned and hosted a Health Fair to engage with communities in the Lower Cape Fear River region on October 16th. We developed relationships with over 50 community organizations that work to promote healthy living in the Lower Cape Fear area (these organizations work on things such as youth education, supporting those with disabilities, healthy eating, disaster preparedness, fitness, and more). 19 organizations added and we provided resources at the Fair for people to learn about the Superfund Center and current research. Kaylie Kirkwood (Trainee) also participated.
Other Activities
CEC created the “PFAS Hub: Community Resource Page” housed on our Superfund Center website. The hub currently has 19 different resources divided into five sections: Infographics, PFAS in Products, PFAS General Resources, PFAS Resources specific to North Carolina, and PFAS Resources from Federal Agencies.
CEC created a water testing program with the CAPTURE Core for the Center’s three formal community partners. So far, CEC have distributed 18 kits.
